In the United States, VTE prophylaxis with either warfarin or LMWH is usually begun after surgery for hip replacement. NAFT compared dalteparin begun either pre-op or post-op to warfarin begun post-op in the acute prevention of VTE. The trial also incorporated an extended outpatient regimen of dalteparin compared to outpatient placebo (after warfarin in hospital).
