Slide Seven:

The patients were an elderly group of men and women with osteoarthritis as the overwhelming indication for hip replacement. There were no significant differences in the known risk factors for VTE among the three groups. The majority of patients received general anesthesia although about 40% received some form of spinal or epidural anesthesia, often in conjunction with general anesthesia.
