Simonneau and colleagues, working in Europe,
compared tinzaparin to UH in the treatment of patients with PE. The
treatment regimens were essentially the same as used by Hull, et al.,
for their DVT study except the Simonneau study was conducted in an unblinded
fashion. All patients received oral anticoagulation for three months.
On this slide we see the baseline characteristics of the two treatment
groups. Note that cancer was less than one-half as prevalent in these
patients as in the study by Hull, et al, (11% vs. 22%).
